What is Residential Treatment?

Residential Treatment is an inpatient environment where people can go to stabilize in order to prevent or recover from a mental health crisis. They meet with a therapist several times per week. Their medication is monitored and adjusted as needed. They are able to engage in with other clients and staff to learn coping skills and life skills to help them begin to feel secure and ready to reenter their life in a better position.

What is CTU?

Safe Haven – Crisis Transition Unit (CTU) is a short-term residential treatment facility that supports clients in recovering from a mental health crisis. Clients typically stay with us for a short time, about 3 to 10 days. CTU focuses on helping clients to effectively engage in treatment in a home-like environment. We function as a lower level of care than a hospital setting. Because of this, CTU acts as a step-down from the hospital to help clients to further stabilize after a hospital stay. We also act as a preventative measure so that clients can engage in a more supportive environment before a hospital stay is required.

CTU has a supportive schedule that offers multiple group lessons a day. The instruction we provide has been approved by a clinician and assists clients in their long-term recovery. Clients use coping skills in real-time during a crisis with staff support. Clients have time and space to practice using these skills in a safe and focused environment. Clients will increase their effectiveness at using coping skills during their stay.

A clinician will meet with clients a few times a week to assist clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to mental health.

Why CTU?

  • Medication support from a licensed provider

    • Our medical provider helps to adjust medications and monitors their effectiveness during a client’s stay. They are able to identify what is working and what is not working and adjust quickly, when needed. This allows clients to see improvements right away instead of multiple visits to a provider over weeks for medication adjustments.

  • Daily Nurse Assessments

    • Our nurses help monitor medication adjustments, side effects, and effectiveness. Nurse assessments occur daily based on client need.

  • Daily monitored medications

    • Staff are trained to administer medications to support clients in adhering to medication routines.

  • Case manager assistance

    • Case management is available to address clients’ immediate needs, support in applying for Medicaid, and provide individual training, support, and connection to services.

  • Daily group lessons on coping and life skills

    • Multiple staff-led groups a day allow clients to engage in learning coping and life skills and help clients to connect with each other for support and understanding. Clients practice these skills so they will know when and how to use them on their own when they are in crisis and in the community

  • Meals and snacks provided daily

    • Meals have been reviewed by a nutritionist to ensure healthy meals are provided to support clients’ physical health.

  • Coordination with outpatient services

    • Whether or not you are already a client with Weber Human Services, we can support you in connecting with an outpatient therapist, case manager, and/or provider when needed to further recovery upon discharge.

Who do we serve?

Residential treatment is appropriate for individuals who have Medicaid, are having an increase in mental health symptoms which have begun to affect their day to day life, and cannot be addressed in regular outpatient treatment.
